Iris, we have decided, will be 4 in February of 2007.  Her mother was a prostitute and died of AIDS shortly after giving birth.  The mother left Iris with a neighbor when she went to the hospital, where she died.  When the neighbor heard of the woman's death she took Iris to the police station and they took her to the Government Hospital, Ward 8 - the abandoned children's unit.  Unfortunately, the police lost her health card so we have to guess her age.  She came to us when she was  approximately 6 months old.

Iris is a sweet little girl with a smile and a voice that melts your heart.
